Medical gases are elements used in medical procedures and are therefore treated as medicine. Unlike the gases used in industry, medical gases have a high degree of purity. The use, distribution and manufacturing of these gases, in most countries, are regulated by government agencies. In Brazil, ANVISA is the agency responsible for the regulation of manufacturers and distributors of these gases. The most commonly used medical gases are: Medical Oxygen: used for drug administration, cardiorespiratory diseases treatment and other applications. Synthetic air: used as a carrier for medicine administered by inhalation and other applications. Nitrous oxide: generally used as an anesthetic and analgesic.
